Less Ho Ho Ho?

Can you smell the magic in the air? Can you feel the holiday atmosphere? Whether you do or not, the Christmas season is upon us! But did it show up a little “too early” this year? Many would pitch the argument that Christmas is being overly commercialized and has arrived too soon, with pre-Thanksgiving advertisements and premature holiday cheers dominating nationwide media. Also, many would say that Christmas is consuming the Thanksgiving holiday. With over $563 billion being spent between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday, over half (52%) of Americans said they were bothered by the commercialization. A whopping 79% of Americans think that it is possible for one to enjoy a fulfilling Christmas without spending a lot of money and cracking to commercialization. But why do advertisements and sales continue to grow, and more importantly, why do shoppers and society continue to buy more and more?
Another problem many people have with commercialization is that it takes away the reason for celebration; the birth of Jesus Christ. An astounding 87% of Americans believe that Christmas should be more about sharing love for their families and caring for others, than about receiving or giving gifts. It makes one wonder if the Christmas commercialization will consume and over take Thanksgiving and surrounding festivities, or will there be a resolution to save people’s wallets and the true meaning of Christmas?
