God In Schools?
|
What happened? I have heard stories from elders about going to school, saying the pledge of allegiance, and then actually praying. Has our country been so overtaken that Christians cannot practice freely? This country was built on a Christian foundation. So who has told us we can’t pray in schools and other government places? School employees have been told they can’t participate in religious club prayers, but only serve as a “safety supervisor.” Student pastors have even been ran off campuses. As I did some researching I found a statement made from George Washington: "I now make it my earnest prayer that God would have you and the State over which you preside, in His holy protection, that he would incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the field; and, finally, that he would be most graciously pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind, which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation." This part stood out most to me. “That he would be most graciously pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and the demean ourselves with that charity, humility.” As soon as I read this part, I immediately thought of a verse that I feel can relate to this in Micah 6:8. “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” This relates with the quote because if we would just go by this and trust in Him, then we will be happy and have hope. This nation just doesn’t seem to have hope anymore. All you ever hear about is the negative stories and how “down hill” this nation is going, but if we would all come together as one with God being our ultimate leader, we could truly work together as a nation and build everything and everyone back up. It is time to stop adding laws and have a fear for God and some respect for human beings.
When this nation was first founded the morals were based around God and God was intended to stay in the government. This country’s morals now are deplorable. I mean, just look around! Now a days, everywhere you look there are sex, drugs, alcohol and people dressing like they are advertising for underwear companies. Teenage pregnancy, drug abuse/ addiction rates are up. Pedophiles live in our communities. Television shows glorify teen pregnancy; teens and young adults live and party together in big houses... and then people want to complain about decent shows that show families praying together in every episode. That is exactly what we need! We need more praying. This country NEEDS prayer. Ever thought about how when a tragedy strikes our country’s outcry is “pray for___”. If we would start praying before then, perhaps we could avoid all the school shootings, bombings, etc. God will “bless the USA” when we invite him back in.
Maybe, just maybe, if we brought God back into schools then people who are not exposed to church and don’t know God personally would be able to understand what GOD wants for us and how we should live. We are ALL sinners, but we ALL should strive to be better people. As Christians we are to go out and make Disciples of Christ and model His actions. We make conscious decisions and choices, and we also have to face the consequences that come with it. We are supposed to “love one another as we love ourselves.” Without God though, we will not know true love and how to truly love each other.
What do you think? I personally think GOD should be in school. This is America!
If “In GOD we trust” is printed on many things, such as money, shouldn’t we start TRULY trusting in Him and not just write it down for the heck of it?
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America [...]ONE NATION UNDER GOD [...]”
The question isn't, “Was America founded on Christian morals?” The question is, “What worldly view gave birth to and is to sustain America? The answer to that question is simple: One nation under God… God is in control.
